A Truly Plant Based Process

Scouring Process

First we scour the fibres to remove any sizing and prepare the fibre to accept the mordants. The fibres and fabrics are rinsed and gently washed with synthropal to remove anything that could effect the uptake of the dyes.

Mordant & Tannins

The Natural Dye process involves using mordants (metals such as Alum and Iron, soy milk etc.) and tannins from powdered nuts, barks, cones, tea and more to help the natural dyes bond to the fibres.

Dye Sources

Natural dyes are sourced from plants, leaves, flowers, cones, barks, insects, lichens, etc. and have been used for thousands of years to dye textiles and natural materials before the use of synthetic processes. Each process is unique depending on the materials and fibres used and the desired outcome.

Eco-Printing & Bundle Dye

In this process, textiles are pressed with leaves, flowers and dye powders, tightly rolled and tied, and then steamed in a bamboo rice steamer to transfer pigment and pattern. There are a large array of techniques and processes used to execute these processes.
